I was born in South Wales in 1978 and I am currently living in Rosemarket in
Pembrokeshire, West Wales.
I started my artistic training whilst at school, studying
for a GCSE in Photography Art. When I moved to the north east of England I returned to
college as a mature student and studied AS Levels in both Fine Art and Textiles. I then
went on to complete and achieve a Distinction in an Art and Design Foundation course.
This led me on to study for a Diploma in Higher Education in Textiles & Surface Design
at Cleveland College of Art and Design. To complement my practical studies I
undertook at the same time an honours degree with the Open University studying Art
History specialising in Modern Art Theory and Renaissance Art & Architecture. I have
also taught Art and Textiles part time in several comprehensive schools in the North
East of England. I currently co-run my village's weekly children's art and craft
club.
My art can be seen in various galleries throughout the area which include:
Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven, The Narberth Gallery in Narberth, King Street
Gallery in Carmarthen and The Blue Ball Restaurant in Tenby.
Exhibitions to date
include: The Mayor of Darlington's annual ball, the Myles Meehan Gallery, the Town Hall
Gallery, The Dolphin Centre, the Mayor's Chamber, all in Darlington, County Durham,
England and The Small Gallery, Carmarthen.
Much of my art is spontaneous,
gestural, concerned with bold mark making and exploring the different properties of each
medium. I don't have any specific ideas or concept in mind when I start a lot of my work,
but after the first mark has been made I seem to know where to go, bringing my moods,
memories and recent experiences to bear upon my work.
Almost all of my art is
contemporary and abstract thus allowing each spectator to see in it what they
themselves want. I also make my own range of gift cards.
