Helen Lopez
"When Helen Lopez's work first came to Oriel Bangor some years ago I was very aware of a new kind of sensibility at work in the area. There is life and joy in her work and since I have had the pleasure of getting to know her better I can say that it is of a piece with the artist herself. Her themes wittily reference European and Ethnic traditions with a wryness and knowing which keeps her work fresh and unpretentious - a playfulness with seriousness which reminds me of Dufy, and perhaps Hockney, and makes her work, like theirs, accessible to a wide public. She is an artist who has not been daunted by the difficulties we face as arts practitioners in these times and has circumvented all the routine obstacles to work with aplomb." Clive Walley
